Meet Real Pets and Owners #4: Eddie and Mike

I’m always trying to find what pet owners think of pet insurance and certainly what’s important in it for them. So, we continue the series with Mike. We’ve been in touch via Twitter when he was looking to insure his new puppy. A big thank you to him for taking the time to answer the few questions below.

If you too would like some expert advice, just get in touch with twitter. Speak soon!!

1: Tell us a bit about you and your pet…

Mike: We’ve got a short legged jack russell puppy called Eddie. He was born at end of May and we’ve had him since middle of July. He is a well mannered dog, loves a tumble with other dogs and is much loved by us and our 4 year old child. We were originally planning on getting a bitch but we fell in love with him in minutes and had to keep him.

2. You’ve recently purchased pet insurance. What made you consider it?

Seemed a no brainer really. With a little dog, there’s always a chance that something might happen to it, which could get expensive. A few friends have had nasty surprises at the vets and we’re keen to avoid that and provide our dog with the best care if something did happen.

3. What’s important for you in a pet cover, what kind of things are you looking for when doing your research?

Making sure we’re covered for all eventualities. We were interested in continual health cover and also how much excesses were. Not all insurance companies are equal and it pays to read the small print.

4. Who did you go with in the end?

We went with More Than after shortlisting that with Sainsbury’s, Pdsa and Aa (as i was already a member).

5. How come?

Price and quality of cover. More Than was recommended by petsinsurance who was very helpful in the process of choosing insurance.

6. Do you have any other thoughts on pet insurance?

Everyone who cares about their pets should get cover. The price to keep man’s best friend safe and be able to afford immediate treatment if need is trivial compared to how much enjoyment a dog can give you.
