Accident only pet insurance for older pets and low budgets
If you have an older pet, you may find it difficult to find affordable insurance. While some insurers do offer cover regardless of how old your pet is, premiums are often quite expensive, the excess is high and co-insurance is often introduced. Co-insurance is a percentage excess that applies on top of your normal fixed excess.
So, if you don’t want any of these, accident only policies can prove a cheaper option. It is currently offered by Animal Friends and Virgin Money.
What does accident only pet insurance cover?
The answer is in the question: your pet will be covered against all accidental injuries. So, if your pet strays on the road and get hit by a car, you would be covered and your pet would receive the treatment they need.
There are a lot of different accidents that can happen to your pet, even if they don’t go outside. Accident happen inside the house all the time: foreign body ingestion, bone fractures, lacerations, burns, allergic reactions, road traffic accidents and more.
Some policies will also cover illnesses that result from an accident. For instance, if your dog breaks a leg and then develop arthritis, some companies will cover the costs for treating this ailment.
Cover starts from £3.27 a month
Accident only cover is the cheapest option you can really get for an older pet. AFI premiums start from only £3.27 per month. If you go with Virgin Money you will benefit from a 10% online discount.
