Who’s Peeking Over the Shoulders of My Ohio Auto Insurance Agents to Keep My Insurance Rates Under Control?
There are many things in life we pay too much for. You know it. I know it. But of all the things in life you pay too much for, coverage from your Ohio auto insurance company shouldn’t be on the list! That doesn’t mean you won’t ever find yourself chafing at the bit to cut back on your auto insurance rates, or wondering what on earth happened when you get a look at how far your insurance rates have gone up over the years!
Isn’t anyone looking over their shoulders to make sure the good citizens of Cincinnati, Cleveland and Delaware aren’t paying too much for their auto insurance?
Before you decide that your Ohio auto insurance company is run by a den of thieves bent on destroying your budget and bleeding you dry of every last penny they can get their hands on, take a second to check out the regulations laid down by the Ohio Department of Insurance. Believe it or not, auto insurance companies aren’t running around randomly hiking their rates any time they felt like it. (If they could you could rest assured they would, just to keep their profits above water between the rising cost of health care and auto repair and the harsh reality of economic recession.)
While there aren’t state ordinances laying down the law regarding exactly what Ohio auto insurance companies can and can’t charge their drivers, there are state specifications laid down about exactly how high auto insurance companies can raise their rates-and why. States with tougher laws tend to see fewer hikes in their insurance rates over the years. (California is infamous for that one.) Ohio tends to fall somewhere in the middle.
So yes, there is someone sitting there making sure your Ohio auto insurance

company doesn’t bleed you dry. That doesn’t mean you won’t see your auto insurance rates go up at some point over the years, simply because there are dozens of reasons your insurance company might need to raise your rates. If you’re in an accident or get ticketed for a traffic violation you can expect to see those rates go up. You can also expect to see a hike in your rates if you move from Ada to Akron, or any other time you go from a lightly populated area to a highly populated area.
You can also expect to see a hike in your rates when inflation strikes and Ohio auto insurance companies find themselves paying more for everything from electricity and office computers to medical bills and auto repair. There’s nothing you can do about that-but doesn’t it make you feel better knowing there’s a method to the madness somewhere out there?
