Pick Up a New Minivan for Summer Cruisin’ and Knock Down Your Auto Insurance Quotes While You’re At It!
Pick Up a New Minivan for Summer Cruisin’ and Knock Down Your Auto Insurance Quotes While You’re At It!
Nothing beats taking a road trip over the summer-unless you’re trying to cram three or four kids in a seat. At that point you might be tempted to take a road trip to Romania, just so you can give them back to the Gypsies and put them out of your misery! Save yourself the aggravation (and a visit from social services) and do your cruising in a new minivan.
Not only will the kids have enough room to spread out a little, you might be able to knock some bucks off your auto insurance quotes while you’re at it!

Before You Sign on the Dotted Line…
Summertime is a good time to go shopping for used minivans. The logic of that doesn’t entirely make sense, but I think it has something to do with mid-life crises and the irresistible urge to trade in the family grocery-getter for a smooth riding convertible. Warm weather brings out the road warrior in all of us.

Don’t forget to ask for a CarFax report if you’re picking up a used minivan, especially if you can’t afford to buy from a dealership. If a van’s been in an accident, CarFax will know about it. You’ll have the facts with no fudging before you cut that check. |
The question then becomes, where’s the best place to go shopping for a new minivan? It depends on how much you can afford to pay, of course, but you’re usually better off buying a van from a dealer rather than your neighbor down the street. New vehicles come with a warranty when you buy them from a dealer, and used vehicles are detailed and inspected before they’re put back on the market.
Now, most dealers want to sell a used vehicle “as-is”. A word to the wise: Ask for a 30 day warranty through the dealership. That way, if there’s something they missed that’s going to break a week after you sign on the dotted line you’re not left holding the bag. They’re not going to tell you, but your dealer has it. Don’t let them talk you into driving off without it.
And After.
As soon as you sign on the dotted line, pick up your cell phone or laptop and start looking around for auto insurance quotes. Most insurers will cover a new vehicle for (X) number of days up to the value of the vehicle you traded it in for. Since you can’t predict when a drunk driver’s going to slam into you the minute you drive off the lot, it pays to add your new minivan onto your policy before you start driving around.
Trust me, once the salesman has your check in their hand, they’re not going to care one way or the other.
Whether your new minivan is going to save you some bucks on your auto insurance quotes is going to depend on your “other” car and which make and model you’re replacing it with. When you’re stuck in traffic on I-15 and the kids are sleeping instead of squabbling, however, every extra penny is going to be well worth it.
