How Cutting the Commute Can Save You Money on Your South Carolina Car Insurance
How Cutting the Commute Can Save You Money on Your South Carolina Car Insurance
If you spend any amount of time on I-95 rolling from Florida to North Carolina and back you’ve already got a pretty good idea why your South Carolina car insurance provider would like you to start working from home! As you probably already figured out, when you’re stuck in the middle of traffic hoping your bumper doesn’t have a close encounter of the hard and metallic kind you’re more likely to have an accident and need to file a car insurance claim.
When you do it every day the chances of filing that claim go up exponentially.
Since nobody really wants to have to pay an arm and a leg for their car insurance just because of everyone else’s driving habits finding ways to cut your commute pays off big time. The fewer hours you spend on the road on your way to and from work the better off you’re going to be. Most people will tell you that the magic number when it comes to your commute and your driving habits is under 15,000 per year. Any more than that and you’re logging some major highway hours every week.
How to Cut Your Commute
Between the cost of gas, the cost of auto repairs and the sheer aggravation of sitting in rush hour traffic most people are already well aware that they need to cut their commute. If they don’t already know it the amount of exposure the Greenhouse Effect and what our fuel emissions are doing to the atmosphere would do it for them! Not to mention the cost of their car insurance. The problem is, cutting your commute is a little more complicated than just deciding you’re not going to do it anymore. This isn’t “Office Space”! Since you can’t just ‘not go’ you have to look around for alternate transportation if you want to capitalize on the savings on your South Carolina car insurance policy.

The easiest way to do it is to hook up with some of your co-workers and arrange a car or van pool. If you punch a 9 to 5 time clock this won’t be that hard. It might get a little trickier if you’re on either a rotating schedule or work alternating shifts, but it can usually be done if you and your co-workers are willing to make the effort. Ask around, and talk to your boss about offering some incentives for carpoolers. For example, Geico has special parking spots available solely for carpools to save employees the trouble of hunting around for a parking spot.
If car pooling isn’t possible and/or practical check into your public transportation options. Most urban areas have a bus line, which would save you the trouble of driving into work and provide an excellent opportunity to catch up on some work before you go into the office. Most of these services offer a monthly bus pass that gives you unlimited transport, and they still cost less than your South Carolina car insurance company is going to charge you.
Cutting your commute is going to do a lot more than save you money on your South Carolina car insurance rates (although that’s nothing to sneeze at). It’s also going to help the environment and prolong the life of your car, so what are you waiting for? Start exploring your options today.
