2011 Top Car Insurance Companies
Car insurance is mandatory for drivers in the United States and there are many car insurance companies that compete for a consumers business. Not all companies that offer low prices offer great customer service, especially if the insured driver is involved in an accident. According to the independent consumer review site, Top Ten Reviews, the companies listed below offer the best customer satisfaction among national car insurance companies.
GEICO Tops the List
The cute little gecko that serves as the mascot for GEICO is apparently telling the truth since GEICO customers gave the company a five star rating in every category. The categories included response and repair, policy flexibility, benefits and discounts, customer service and claims, and timely responses. GEICO was the only national car insurer that scored 5 stars in every category making it the number one pick among the car insurance companies that were rated.
Progressive Insurance
Progressive insurance company gave GEICO a run for their money losing only a half star each in policy flexibility and benefits and discounts. Overall, progressive customers were delighted with the service provided by the company and felt the prices were fair and the policies more flexible than average. As runner up in the top car insurance contest, Progressive Auto Insurance is a good buy and offers great service for drivers who have been involved in an accident.
eSurance
A surprise third place went to eSurance, an online company that offers discount auto insurance. eSurance is a relative new comer compared to other major companies that were rated and they seem to be doing a lot right. eSurance came in third because they lost half a star each in the response and repair category and in customer service and claims. Since consumers feel these categories are more important than price or flexibility, Progressive nosed out eSurance for second place.
Nationwide Insurance
In fourth place, Nationwide Insurance lost half a star each in the response and repair, policy flexibility, benefits and discounts categories. Consumers were still very pleased with the companys service and prices and gave them five stars for customer service and claims, which means there was no waiting for the insurance check to arrive in the mail. Nationwide recently launched an aggressive advertising campaign in an effort to increase their market share.
USAA
USAA lost a full star for response and repair and they are an unusual addition to auto insurance company rankings. While highly rated, USAA serves members of the military, veterans and their families so not every consumer can purchase an auto insurance policy through this company. Both AM Best and JD Powers give this company an honorable mention although they usually do not rank the company because policies are not available to members of the general public.
The rankings only include national companies and there are many regional auto insurance companies that offer fair prices and good service. Consumers can check the reputation of smaller regional insurers with their state department of insurance or Better Business Bureau.
